Red Piece

Materials: scissors, dress, block, bottle, jar, ice breaker container, mini fridge, cellophane, shelf brackets, nails
Year: 2018

From a series of 'no-paint' paintings, this work uses everyday objects to challenge the expectations and context of the objects we encounter, both in art galleries and daily life. Blurring lines between hierarchy, the piece is playful and humorous while simultaneously conversing with the history of painting through the way that the materials in the piece are composed. I wish to use these ordinary bits of life in extraordinary ways, not by elevating them to a quasi-religious level, but by acknowledging their ever persistent presence in our day to day lives.
